Whether you are duck hunting in Uruguay or Argentina, there are some general travel tips that are helpful when traveling internationally.
Flights to Uruguay
- Getting to Uruguay is becoming easier and easier with American Airlines providing a direct flight from Miami to Montevideo three times a week. For those who will be staying in Buenos Aires or have memberships with other airlines, you will fly to Buenos Aires and then connect to Montevideo, arriving about 1 PM into Montevideo, Uruguay. You may do this if you do not wish to hunt the day of arrival. The transfer to the lodge in Rio Branco from the airport in Montevideo (MVD) is about 4.5 hours. We provide a comfortable private van supplied with snacks and the host speaks English fluently. The country of Uruguay is a nice setting with lots of farm land, hills, sheep, cattle, ostriches, and more
Duck hunting in Uruguay is typically a 3, 4 or 5 day hunt. The flights are all overnight and the price ranges from $800 to $1200 roundtrip. Those with miles can easily book with miles or points and Uruguay usually requires 100,000 miles or more for a first class seat to/from Uruguay. Contact our office with assistance in booking your flights for duck hunting in Uruguay.
Ground Transportation in Uruguay
- The Los Gauchos staff will meet you and your duck hunting group at the airport, providing assistance with luggage. Unlike many international airports, the airport in Montevideo is small and the airport lobby right outside of customs makes it easy to find the Uruguay duck hunting host. The transfer to and from the Montevideo airport is a not included fee; however, it is prepaid before departing for the Uruguay duck hunting trip.
Our clients have found this to be a much more efficient process and less cash needed while in Uruguay. Los Gauchos is proud to accept Mastercard and Visa for all your travel and Uruguay duck hunting trip fees. The only exception to this is shotgun shells, which is typically paid after the last duck hunt at the lodge the day of departure from Uruguay.
Please contact our office as some lodges DO accept credit cards for shotgun shell fees, always ask, Los Gauchos is here with valuable answers and information for your Uruguay duck hunt.
The transfer from the airport to the duck hunting lodge in Uruguay is about 4 1/2 hours. We usually stop along the way for a meal and to refresh and see the sites of Uruguay. The small towns have some of the best home cooked Uruguay meals ranging from the premium beef to outstanding Italian dishes. The countryside is some of the most picturesque and the working ranches with cattle, sheep, and ostriches will be common as will the estancias and rolling hills. You will find yourself stepping back in time without traffic, or the daily scenes of a US city. Enjoy the ground transfer seeing the sights of Uruguay and soon you will be duck hunting in Uruguay.
